چکیده

To cope with a growing number of applications, the basic formalism of constraint satisfaction problems has to be augmented in various directions. One of these directions is the concept of dynamic constraint problems i.e. problems to which constraints can be added but also retracted at any time. To handle dynamic problems, it is important to adapt eeciently the solving procedures that are available on static ones. Of particular interest is the arc-consistency enforcement procedure; the goal of the paper is to present an adaptation of it to dynamic problems. Contrary to previous approaches, the one presented here does not rely on any reason maintenance system and consequently has the advantage of a low space complexity. The detailed algorithm of the procedure is given and an experimental evaluation of its performances is displayed. Some beneets gained by the approach regarding exibility and extensibility are highlighted.

A New Algorithm for Maintaining Arc Consistency After Constraint Retraction

Dynamic Constraint Satisfaction Problems play a very important role in modeling and solving real-life problems where the set of constraints is changing. The paper addresses a problem of maintaining arc consistency after removing a constraint from the constraint model. A new dynamic arc consistency algorithm is proposed that improves the practical time efficiency of the existing AC|DC algorithm ...

An Improved Algorithm for Maintaining Arc Consistency in Dynamic Constraint Satisfaction Problems

Real world is dynamic in its nature, so techniques attempting to model the real world should take this dynamicity in consideration. A well known Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CSP) can be extended this way to a so called Dynamic Constraint Satisfaction Problem (DynCSP) that supports adding and removing constraints in runtime. As Arc Consistency is one of the major techniques in solving CSPs, ...

Probabilistic Consistency Boosts MAC and SAC

Constraint Satisfaction Problems (CSPs) are ubiquitous in Artificial Intelligence. The backtrack algorithms that maintain some local consistency during search have become the de facto standard to solve CSPs. Maintaining higher levels of consistency, generally, reduces the search effort. However, due to ineffective constraint propagation, it often penalises the search algorithm in terms of time....

Constraint Retraction in CLP ( FD ) : Formal Framework and Performance ResultsYAN

Constraint retraction can be described, in general, as the possibility of deleting a previously stated piece of information. This is obviously very convenient in many programming frameworks, especially in those that involve some level of interaction between the user and the system, or also in those concerning rescheduling or replanning. Nevertheless, constraint retraction is usually not provide...

Iterative Forward Search: Combining Local Search with Maintaining Arc Consistency and a Conflict-based Statistics

The paper presents an iterative forward search framework for solving constraint satisfaction and optimization problems. This framework combines ideas of local search, namely improving a solution by local steps, with principles of depth-first search, in particular extending a partial feasible assignment towards a solution. Within this framework, we also propose and study a conflict-based statist...
